Literacy Reflection W5 T3

This week for Literacy I have been doing activities around whitebait. I did a  pre-reading anticipation chart to start me off on endangered animals. My WALT for reading is to summarize what I read.  I found some of the questions tricky but most of them were reasonable. Here is my Anticipation chart:

PrEP Letter & PrEP Profile Reflection T3 2017

PrEP is coming up! This year I applied to be a CEO in my group "Spectacular Animals" because last year I wanted to be something different rather then helping in a junior class. Here's my letter and my profile. I hope I get the job!

Numeracy Reflection W5 T3

This week for Numeracy I have been learning about fractions, lot's and lot's of fractions. Some of the things I have been learning is how to add, subtract and simplify fractions. I found the adding fractions easiest and I found the simplifying a little harder. Here's a DLO of what I understand about Fractions, hope you enjoy!

WALT: Use addition and simple multiplication to find fractions of sets, shapes and quantities.

THANKS FOR WATCHING!

Sandy The Sheepfox, Prologue Reflection T3

Here's a prologue about my book, Sandy the Sheepfox. I have updated it so that it makes a little more sense. WALT: We had to write a story or piece of writing fast. Here is the prologue of my story, hope you enjoy!

Prologue
“Is everyone ready to go?” Asked a mother fennec fox.
“Sure thing.” Said the dad fennec fox.

“Definitely!” Screamed Dusty, the daughter of the 2 fennec foxes. It was her very first time going out hunting with her family, as her mother was pregnant, she would be at the front with her father, and her mother would be at the back.

They travelled deep into the sandy dunes of the desert, it was the perfect time to search for bugs and beetles as there had been a huge storm overnight so all of the pockets of sand would be uncovered and bugs and beetles would be found……..

Dusty jumped on a beetle and showed it to her father, he couldn’t really see it as it was in her jaws.
“Nice catch, Dusty!” Said the father.
“Thanks, Dad.” Dusty replied.
Suddenly a giant gust of wind came through  the sandy dunes.
“I think it might be time to go back now.” Said the father.
“But… Dusty was interrupted by a cry of pain.
“Oww!” Cried the mother.
“Well it’s definitely time to go.” Said the father. “I think the baby’s kicking.”
“You’re right about that.” Said the mother painfully.
And that was their last words as they travelled through the rough wind back to the den.

They finally arrived back at the den, and Dusty told her dad to take her mother inside, while she put the prey away in a small storage hole.
Just as she was coming back into the den, a huge tornado swept by the den, making it harder to proceed into the den.
“Dad.”  Dusty called. He didn’t hear her over the wind, so she tried again.
“DAD!” Yelled Dusty over the wind. He must of heard her this time, as he came out to see what was the matter.
“Dad, help me!” Said Dusty in midair.
“Take my paw!” Said the father, reaching out to her.
“I, I, I can’t reach.” Said Dusty.
“Just keep trying!” Said the father, tearfully.
Then the wind became the strongest of all, and swept poor Dusty out of the den and into the Sandy outback.
“Duuuustyyyy!” She heard her father yell.
“Daaaad.” She tried yelling back.
They kept on yelling until they couldn’t hear or see each other.
The wind took Dusty through the desert and then she smashed into three rocks…….

And everything went Black

Thanks for reading!

Literacy Reflection W4 T3

This week for Literacy I have been doing a KWVL chart on Whitebait along with a Categorization on Whitebait and a rugby commentary.

Whitebait Categorization:
WALT: Summarize what we read
To do this I used the information I got from answering my questions from the KWVL chart I did last week. Next I put the information onto a chart (categorization) and split it into 3 categories that would give you information that the title signals. For EXAMPLE: Life Cycle: Eggs, larvae whitebait, inanga.

Whitebait KWVL chart:
WALT: Summarize what we read
For this I finished the last bit of the KWVL chart I started last week. The part I had to fill in was what I had learnt from the text. I have to say I must of learnt alot because it went onto 2 pages. As it went on 2 pages I will only be showing you the first page.

Rugby Commentary:
WALT: Write for different audiences
For this task I had to watch a short video of Damian McKenzie and his goal-kicking smile and write as if I was someone in the crowd  like a TV commentator, a radio commentator, a crusaders fan and much more. I chose to be a crusader's fan and a TV commentator.

   Rugby Commentary

Choose from the following perspectives
  • You are Damian’s coach
  • You are a member of the Chiefs team
  • You are a radio commentator
  • You are a member of the Crusaders team
  • You are a Chief’s fan
  • You are a Crusader’s fan
  • You are the TV commentator
  • You are Damian McKenzie

Name: Kyra
Clip:  Damian McKenzie watch it here (0-45sec)
Chosen Perspective:  Crusader’s fan

Script for Crusader’s fan:

I was so excited, I could barely sit in my seat, and the game hadn’t even started yet.

30 minutes later…..
“There he is.” I say pointing to Damian McKenzie. “Look, Watch, he’s about to do his special kick off.” I whisper to someone I completely don’t know.

Damian takes his aim, smiling while he does it…...and pow! The green and white rugby ball flies through the air, passing the screaming crowd, waiting impatiently for the ball to fly through the white goalpost with the blue padding at the bottom.
Will it make it? Yes it does, the impatience has ended and everyone in the crowd is going completely WILD!!!
Damian McKenzie has made the game!

Name: Kyra
Clip:  Damian McKenzie watch it here (0-45sec)
Chosen Perspective:  Crusader’s fan
Note: This might not be the exact places, dates, etc.

Script for TV Commentator:

“3,2,1…...and action!” Calls a man with the camera.
I started to talk, my very first talk in a real rugby stadium!

“And we are live here at the AMI Stadium in Christchurch, New Zealand, and we’re about to capture Damian McKenzie doing a goal kick.” “Will he do his Goal-kicking smile, or not?”

“Oh, Oh, turn the camera over to him, please? Thank You.”
“Here he goes.” I pause.
POW! The rugby ball shoots into the air with Damian’s powerful kick.

“And…” I wait impatiently for the ball to land on the ground through the white goal posts.
“And that ball has passed through those goalposts!” I finish excitedly. “ And the crowd is going wild, If you just missed that goal-kicking smile, you’re very unlucky!”

Speech Reflection T3 2017

This year I did my speech on King Henry VIII and his 6 wives because one night I was looking on national geographic-one of my favorite sites, and I found this article on him and after I read it I thought this would be good for my speech because I didn't have anything to do my speech on. As well as lot's of information and history of each of the 6 wives I tried to use as much humor as I could in it because, well, King Henry executed 2 of his wives.

Here is my slide that I used an aide:

I enjoyed doing it but I've still got to do it again as speech board is coming up!

Numeracy Reflection W2 T3

This week for numeracy I have been focusing on capacity, area and volume. Capacity is the amount something can hold, volume is how much there is inside of something and area is the amount of space. My favorite is Capacity because I like adding litres and mls. Here is a slide of all of my work I have finished this week!

Literacy Reflection W2 T3

This week in Literacy I have been doing writing and reading. The DLO's I am going to present onto my blog this week is a Persuasive Person, a KWVL chart on whitebait ready for our reading next week. I will also explain to you  about my persuasive writing.

Writing

In writing we had to do a persuasive person as a plan for our writing on something we would change in school and we addressed it to my literacy teacher and we had to try and persuade her to change it. My problem I wanted to change was how loud the bell in the hallway is because it gives me a headache and sometimes scares me. This isn't my real letter-it's just a draft for now, so I am just going to post my plan.

Reading
This week we did a KWVL chart on what we know on whitebait. A KWVL chart stands for Know, Would like to know, Vocabulary and Learnt. I only did the first three this week because the learn one is what we learn after reading the text.  Did you know that whitebait lay their eggs on long grass at high tide? I think that this is a good idea because bigger fish can't get to them, but they could get stamped on or eaten by land animals.......
