SLJ~A2~D1~W1 Reflection

Summer Learning Journey
Activity 2
Day 1
Week 1

Write a letter to a friend while you pretend to be travelling to New Zealand in the early days.

Dear Mum,

Even though it has only been a few days since I left our island, I am missing you a lot as your are the best mum on the whole Island. We have caught a lot of fish. I have also seen 6 dolphins-don't know what type but there's one that keeps following us. I think it's a boy so I called it Reed. We were in a horrible storm which caused so much terrible damage to one of the Wakas that it sunk! Luckily we were only about 1 mile from Aotearoa so we were fine. We reach the island with everyone we had started with. It was late the night we arrived and we needed to build a shelter. As the storm was very bad, trees and ferns were everywhere on the beach. We built the shelter within ten minutes and went straight to bed. Tomorrow we will build a better shelter, gather some food and explore the wet and wild island.

  1. Hi Kyra,

Ruby here from the Summer Learning Journey team!

Wow! What a great letter! I can see that you have really used your imagination and thought about what sorts of things would have happened on the journey. You have done an amazing job of telling us what happened.
Could you tell us some more about how the settlers felt before they landed in Aotearoa? I wonder how they came up with that name for the new land they found.

I look forward to reading more of your blog over summer.
    Cheers,
    Ruby.
