SLJ Week 1 Activity 10 2019

Three things that I learnt, as well as one thing I want to learn from the two videos on the two professional tennis players, Serena and Venus Williams.

Venus Williams:

I learnt that Venus is the no. 5 top earning female athlete. Venus has been credited for pulling off the milestone of Wimbledon becoming the last Grand Slam to grant equal prize money for women, a decade ago. In 2005, Venus won Wimbledon, with the longest women's final.

Serena Williams:

I learnt that Serena has earned over $80 million in her whole career, and has won 23 Grand Slams. Serena also had a baby on the 1st of September 2017. Serena is the top female athlete, with the most pay.

Serena and Venus Williams have both been supporting equal pay rights.

The player I have chosen to interview is Steven Adams. Here is five questions that I would ask him:

1. "When did you first start playing basketball?"
2. "How many teams have you played for?"
3. "Did you have a favourite basketball player/idol as a child?"
4. "What is your favourite thing about basketball?"
5. "Finally, what's a good tactic/tip for all the upcoming basketball players?"

The three super powers that I would most want if I were a superhero would have to be time travel, shape-shifting and telepathy. I would have time travel to go back in time and stop any bad things from happening, though being careful not disrupt history. I would use telepathy to communicate with people who may be deaf or blind, because it doesn't use any normal human senses. I shape-shift into animals, a bird so I could fly or a dolphin so I could see the underwater world.

SLJ Week 1 Activity 6 2019

When I went to Blenheim once for a Gymnastics Development Squad training for a couple of days, I learnt many new tricks on the different apparatuses (bar, beam, floor and vault). On the bar during one of the training's, the coaches taught me how to do giants. If you don't know what a gymnastics bar is, here's a picture:

A giant is when you hold onto the high bar (the one that is higher up) and go around it completely with only your hands to control/support you. It's quite scary when you do it for the first time, even if you have adult support and straps around your wrists that connect to the bar so you don't fall. I think this is a time when I was brave, and when other first-time-giant-attempting-gymnasts were brave. It's quite fun though, once the scary part is gone!

Week 1 Activity 5 SLJ 2019

I chose to write a haiku poem, imagining I was Neil Armstrong walking on the moon and how I felt. A Haiku as 3 lines, the first line has 5 syllables, the second 7 and the third the same as the first line, 5 syllables. Here is my poem:

The space door opens
An uninhabited moon
Now under my feet.

A charity that I am interested in is the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) because a few months ago, we adopted a puppy from the Greymouth SPCA. The SPCA owns and takes care of many animals such as Dogs and Puppies, Cats and Kittens, sometimes bunnies and occasionally birds. They feed them, give them water, train the dogs/puppies, take them for walks (dogs/puppies), rescue, take them for check-ups and get them micro chipped or de-sexed. They will rescue abandoned animals and care for them until someone comes and adopts them. SPCA Greymouth's details:

SLJ Week 1 Activity 2 2019

I was born here in New Zealand, but when I was 3 years old we went to England to live with my Aunty and Uncle for 1 year. The house that my Aunty and Uncle lived in was called Chadbury House. I met my Nana and Grampa there too, as they already lived somewhere else in England. Then we moved back to New Zealand and I've been here ever since, moving around different places on the South Island of NZ .A few years ago, my Aunty and Uncle came over to New Zealand and now live in Nelson, where we go visit them in the holidays; because who doesn't love a bit of sun instead of rain from the West Coast!

SLJ Week 1 Activity 1

Food that I would need to take if I went on a long trip at sea. I would need to think about food that would last long periods of time, like biscuits, canned food, jams, things with lots of sugar in them. I would also need to take plenty of water.

-Jams and jellies-They have a lot of sugar in them, and sugar lasts long.
-Canned beans-Any canned food will last a long time.
-Canned soups-As above.
-Canned fruits-As above, also it has natural sugars in it.
-Canned vegetables-As above.
-Crackers-They last for many months, also when opened.
-Biscuits-The same as crackers, and they have a lot of sugar in them.
-Different types of wheat-They last a long time when properly stored.
-Dried corn-It can last for more than 10 years.
-Pasta-Can last about 1-2 years.

Heroes DLO

Here is another DLO that I have done for one of my Main Stars for this term. This Digital Learning Object is about when we did our heroes inquiry/topic.

In the google drawing above there is a screenshot of the basic facts of Kate, it's quite small so here it is bigger so you can have a better read:

Christmas Concert 2019

This year is my last year at Grey Main School and therefore my last Christmas Concert. This year Totara's theme is Queen, a band that have made some awesome songs; you may have heard of a few of them...........Here's the songs that we're doing at the concert:

-I want to break free (Year 8's dance)
-I want it all (Year 7's dance)
-We are the champions
-Don't stop me now
-Bohemian Rhapsody
-Radio Gaga
-We will rock you

We're only doing certain parts of these songs, because otherwise our item would be WAY to long. I along with some other Year 8 dancers and teachers have choreographed most of the dances. It is going to be great to see what our item looks like on the night!
