Food Pyramid

So far this Term we have been doing topic. Our Topic's topic is Garden to table. As one of the activities we had to make our own food Pyramid on a google drawing. We did have a bit of help though because we went to Harold a couple of weeks ago. Here is my food Pyramid creation:

Mistletoe Bay Brochure Reflection 2018

For this Main Star I had to make a brochure that sells Mistletoe Bay, as we are going on camp there this year. Here is my brochure:

Swimming Sports Reflection 2018

Last week on Friday, the Team B Length swimmers went to the Grey Main Swimming Sports. Because the Greymouth pool was closed only the Team B Length swimmers were aloud to go, as we were in the Runanga Pool. I don't think we could have fit nearly 350 kids into the space!

I entered all of the events except 100 meter Freestyle and Butterfly. The reason was because we weren't aloud to do 100 meter Freestyle because it would take too long, and I can't do butterfly yet. Here are the estimated results for my other races:

25m Freestyle-2nd equal out of 4/3.
50m Freestyle-2nd out of 4.
25m Breaststroke-4th out of 4.
50m Breaststroke-3rd out of 4.
25m Backstroke-1st equal out of 4/3.
50m Backstroke-Smashed my head on the concrete wall but came 1st out of 4.
Long Plunge-Crashed into the lane rope,tilted on my side and came last. But hey, first long plunge ever.
Medley-Really tired and came 3rd out of 4.

Key:
25m=1 length.
50m=2 lengths.
Long Plunge=Gliding.
Medley=3 lengths.

I didn't get into the Relay team, but we still got to play on the giant inflatable! When the Greymouth pool opens again, the school is going to have a swimming festival-when everyone can go!

I wonder if I'll get into Grey District???

Rewanui Day Trip 2018

In the holidays me and my family went to Rewarding to explore old mining sites and caves. The trip was great-but really, really hot! It also took us forever, but there were like millions of gorse bushes and lots of mud the I kept getting stuck in. We walked through two tunnels, two streams, lot's of gorse bushes and heaps of mud. We also saw 2 sheds and 1 super old building, which I was surprised the windows weren't shattered! Along the way we saw a few metal wheels, some railway tracks, a boot and an outdated beer bottle. On the walk back we had lunch in the second tunnel because it was nice and shady, and also beause the stream had sand flies. When we got back to the car, when I took my shoes and socks off, I had a clear line of mud and then my skin. I got so dirty! Luckily, right after that, we were headed for the beach for body boarding!

I had a great day out!

Welcome To 2018!

Kia Ora and welcome back to 2018!!!

Hi my name is Kyra, you might know me from when I was a year six last year......well guess what? I'm a year seven now! My teacher this year is Miss Power, but my class and I will also be working together quite a lot with the classroom next door, Miss Hines's class.

So far this term (only 8 days) I have been doing quite a bit. In Numeracy I have been doing learning how to set out my maths book properly and I have also been doing lot's of problem sheets where we had use an Algorithm to solve either of the following:

  • Addition with decimal points.
  • Subtraction with decimal points.
  • Short division.
  • 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication.
  • 2 digit by 1 digit multiplication.
  • 4 digit subtraction.
I found them all quite hard at first, but as I worked hard on most of them, I began get it. I still need a bit of practice on Short division, but I think I'll get there. In the morning everyday we're all meant to do a 100 question basic facts test in under 5 minutes. My first try on the second day of school was terrible-I didn't even finish in the 5 minutes! But a few days after that, when my brain had adapted from being a zombie brain-I got some pretty good scores. My best score yet is 99/100 in 2:49s. But enough talk about maths-I'd better tell you about literacy.......

In the past 8 days in literacy I have been working on my poem anthology. The first 3 poems I did were acrostic poems. Acrostic Poems is a type of poem where you have one word that is vertically down the page and for each letter of that word there is a sentence or word about it. For Example:

That is one of the poems I did, here is the other 2:

One of the school sports coming up is Swimming sports. I entered nearly all of the events. I hope to do well in my backstroke events.

So there you have it, the first 8 days of the 2018 school year. I can't wait to see what opportunities lie ahead...........
