Maths Week 10

This week our work book for the Galileo's was on adding and subtracting in Algebra. I found it easy to understand certain equations, but some not. Here is the work book for this week:

Wearable Arts 2019

Last night was the Wearable Arts evening. I was in a group with Katelynn (our model) and Angelina. The theme for Wearable Arts was the West Coast, with a future focus. My group's idea was a fantail and we made an amazing costume that we presented last night, accompanied by a speech. We didn't win any prizes but we were very proud of what we have achieved in the past term. There was couple changes to our speech but this was mainly what it was before:

Wearable Arts Speech 2019

This year the theme for Wearable Arts was flavours of the West Coast with a future focus. We had many different ideas and designs like Ferns, Matariki and beaches but in the end we decided to create an outfit based on Fantails. For our outfit we decided on a simple top and skirt made out of old brown bed sheets. Then we decided to make a brown and white tail, and feathers around the top to respect the fantail. We made the tail out of paper that we painted and stuck onto cardboard. To stick the tail on the outfit we used pieces of velcro and stuck them onto a velcro belt we made. We tried to make the tail exactly like a fantail’s real tail. The feathers around the top we made out of paper that we cut lots of small cuts in. We had about 80 feathers and we painted about half brown. To stick the feathers onto the top we used hot glue. For the wings we got more of the brown bed sheet material and cut sets of it out then tied them onto Katelynn’s arm’s so they would for and wave around just like a fantail’s wings flow in the wind.

Our inspiration for this outfit was mainly the fantail’s tail, wings and their feathers. We think Fantails are apart of the West Coast because the are practically everywhere and their maori name is Piwakawaka, and we know that Te Reo Maori is very important to Grey Main School, which is on the West Coast. We found the hardest part of making this outfit was sewing everything together. We spent most of our time trying to use the sewing machine but it didn’t work so we just handsewed it. Surprisingly the easiest part was the tail and feathers on the top, even though we thought that would have been the hardest part.

Languages Tuesday Week 10 Term 3 2019

Today in the morning before maths we did another short session of Languages with Mr Kumar. We learnt some common Hindi words from a google slide that Mr Kumar made and shared with us. This is the slide-

Famous Rugby Player

Last week on Friday for Literacy we had to do some research on a famous rugby player. The player I decided to research was Sonny Bill Williams. Here is some interesting facts that I found out about him-

Financial Literacy

Today in Maths we have been doing some Financial Literacy. Financial Literacy is an area to do with money. Today Mr Kumar gave us the task of making a spread sheet about interest. Here is my spread sheet-

Speech Board 2019

This is a google slide that is about my experience doing Speech Board this year:

Ballet Exam

Today I did my BBO Ballet exam. BBO stands for the British Ballet Organisation, and they do other styles/genres as well as Ballet. This year I was in Grade 3, as I hadn't done ballet for year when I started in Term 1. I do Ballet and some other genres at CND. There are 3 other people in my grade at CND including Charlee, Indie and Pallas. Our examiner's name was Mrs Wilson. We all worked hard this year and we were very proud of what we did today. After my exam, I had Theatre Awards, which are like dancing competitions minus the competition part. We can do any style we like and we have to have the appropriate shoes, hair, make up and costumes. This year was my first year doing Theatre Awards and I did four dances including a ballet solo, lyrical solo, barefoot solo and a demi character solo. We do not know our results of our exam but we did get our reports and medals for our theatre awards. Everyone received a gold medal and very good marks. I scored:

Ballet Solo: 90/100 points
Lyrical Solo: 93/100 points
Barefoot Solo: 90/100 points
Demi Character Solo: 94/100 points

I can't wait to be doing another exam next year, which will be for Grade 5, as I am doing Grade 4 in the holidays. My tutor Cynthia is an amazing teacher who has helped me learn all of my Syllabus work for this year, along with my family.

Using Flowcharts

Today in Maths, the WALT was to Use flowcharts to solve equations. We had a 13 page slide with flowcharts to help us solve equations. I found it hard to understand at first and it took me a while to do. Here is mine:

2~Do, pronounced more like door.
3~Teen
4~Chaar, hold the aar a bit longer than usual.
5~Paamch

Today in literacy, we were given the task of picking our favourite All Blacks Rugby player, and do some research on them. I don't really watch rugby, so I only know a couple of players. I put my information onto a google doc, here it is~

Numeracy Week 9 Term 3 2019

This week in numeracy, we have been doing more of solving/writing algebraic equations. We also had some Maths Buddy tasks set around this area of maths. We had a work book to complete, here is mine for this week:

Being In The Warehouse

For one of my Main Stars this term, I had to write a blog post about what I had been doing in my PrEP group. Since I am not in a PrEP group this year (as I am working in the Grey Main PrEP Warehouse 2019), I decided to write about doing the job I do along with Mrs Costello, Ruby, Honor and Iris.

This year the Grey Main PrEP Warehouse is based in the school's PE shed. We have heaps of equipment in the cupboards and on a table. Last year the Warehouse was based in the school library, but there was too many supplies so it moved to the PE shed.  The Warehouse is the place where all the supplies is kept for all the ventures to use once they fill out an order form saying what they need and how much we charge them. Here is the basic cycle of the Warehouse:

1. Order forms from different ventures will be placed in a small box in the library.
2. One of the Warehouse people will go to the library when available and take the order/s to the PE Shed.
3. The Warehouse person will look at the order and collect the supplies requested on the form.
4. The supplies will be put into the box labelled the class/venture's name.
5. The Warehouse person will look through the supplies catalogue and check that the costs are correct on the form.
6. The costs will be totalled and written onto the bottom of the form.
7. The Warehouse person will sign their name/signature on the bottom of the form.
8. The order form will be copied into the red exercise book that we keep to put the form information down in.
9. The form goes in the box with the supplies.
10. The form will be photocopied, as one form goes to the venture and the other goes to the Grey Main School Bank.
11. The order is taken to the venture/class and is checked. Everything comes out but the Warehouse person takes back the Bank's form and the box back to the PE shed.
12. The Bank's form is given to the bank to charge to the group's bankbook.
13. The cycle begins again.

Occasionally something won't be right on the order or we don't have supplies, so the groups just have to make do with what we have. In these sort of cases, we will go and talk to the groups to see what an alternative would be. It is REALLY fun being in the Warehouse for PrEP, and I suggest you do it next year!!!

How To Make Felix Felicis (Liquid Luck)

This week in literacy, I had to write instructions on how to make our favourite sandwich. I've already made a post about this so look through my blog if you want to read it. I also had to make instructions on how to make a potion. I could make up my own potion if I wanted to, but I decided to choose a potion from the world of Harry Potter!
